Banjir 2014.

A little update from our end concerning East Coast floods, for my own reminder in future.

My brother, Zahid, is currently stranded at Masjid Kampung Jengka, on his way back from KL to Kerteh. Nearly 3 days now. And Alhamdulillah, makanan semua cukup 3 kali sehari - sometimes nasi, sardin and ikan kering can do wonders. And he said hikmah semua ni, he can jemaah 5 waktu, plus iktikaf sekali. At some point we couldn't reach him on the phone sebab internet line disrupted and flat battery, but Alhamdulillah everything is sorted for now, and he's been keeping us updated.

Far as I know, none of my close relatives are affected by the floods. My kampung in Selising, Pasir Puteh is still standing, and our house in Paka, Terengganu is still there, albeit looking like a zoo, Zahid cakap. I think Indera Mahkota, Kuantan is not affected as well. Alhamdulillah.

But my family in general has been working on relief missions, getting supplies to the affected areas. My mom's side is Kelantanese, so this somewhat feels a little personal. Looking at the WhatsApp threads, my uncles have been updating everyone on the latest development - jalan mana tutup, what's the best way to help, etc. And that includes my dad as well. He brought the younger siblings (Afiq and Adam) to Manik Urai to help.

Speaking of Ayah, have I mentioned that he's no longer working? He retired earlier this year, at the age of 50. I remember he always told us he wanted to retire early, and that by the age of 50 he will be free from mortgages and debts. I'm not sure about the mortgage since I think PV8 tu belum habis bayar lagi haha, but boy he sure did retire early. Since then he's been doing his own side business, and on top of that actively joining relief/dakwah particularly in remote area, ie kawasan orang asli.

A little anecdote about Ayah, there was one time we were travelling on the road from Kelantan to Kedah, going through hills and small villages. We came across a bunch of orang asli kids happily walking by the road side, presumably after coming back from one of the local air terjun. Ayah stopped the car and talked to them, giving them some money and biscuits as small gestures. We were all like, what was he doing? I mean did the kids not get offended when a random passerby gave them money when they were probably as happy and contented as the birds? But no, they were very grateful and didn't seem to mind it, if not welcome the small hadiah as I would say. And since then, Ayah tried to make it a point to bring some food and old nice clothes to give to the orang asli kids, should we meet any on the road.

Which speaking of, Ayah once brought a peminta sedekah into the house when we were in Paka, and gave away Ummi's Hush Puppies old shoes for him to give to his child, which understandably made Ummi upset. Haha -_-

So that's a little update on banjir from our end. And a little story about Ayah. Meanwhile sama sama doakan untuk Malaysia, the floods, the missing plane, and all its entirety. InshaAllah.

27 Days of Home: Day one to four.

Following last summer's holiday that seemed a little too short to my liking (2 bulan setengah dah short, lepas ni summer 3 minggu je gua tak tau lah cemana T_T), I thought I would document this short break as much as I could. It's harder than I thought but I must persevere! Lol.

Day 1: Monday, 27/01/2014 - The day of arrival

Remember my annoying 7-hour-transit post? I was so traumatised by it (emosi bakhang) that I told myself that if I were to go back alone I would seriously fly MAS. And at £640 return flying from Belfast to KL, it's a sin not to buy the ticket! So my route was Belfast to London Heathrow by Aer Lingus followed by London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines with checked in baggage of 30kg. Deal much?

Annoying fact of the day: Usually a return ticket from London to KL by MAS without any connecting flights costs around £800. But if you fly from different airports into London  (e.g. Manchester - London - KL) with MAS and another code sharing flights, the tickets can go down to £500. Fine of you're living far from London but to us in Leicester which is an hour from London it is such a pain. All I can say is thank you hubs for living in Belfast. Phew.

Anyways, it was probably the best long haul flight I've ever flown in. Ever. No regrets. The food was amazing, entertainment was packed with waaay too many good movies, and best of all, I got three seats in a row all for myself. YES I GOT TO SLEEP 7 HOURS STRAIGHT LYING DOWN NO KIDDING. Tak serious. Boarded the aircraft, had a wonderful supper, slept like a log (literally), woke up to another good meal (breakfast?) and touch down. Wow. Wow. My first time flying alone and it was like a dream. Alhamdulillah.

There were two options for this particular meal, ayam kicap or cod fish. And I was like, AYAM KICAP WAHAHAHAH NO. So cod fish it was then.

Arrived KLIA at about 6pm and went to the prayer room since Ayah and Ummi weren't there yet. And the funny part began.

I just finished praying when Adam called from UK. Talked to him, teased him a bit, went all mushy gooey and stuff, then hung up. That was when an akak in the surau suddenly said "Manjanya suara awak" out of the blue. And me still in my playful mode instantly replied "Cakap dengan husband kenalah manja" OMG TETIBA SANGAT. Akak tu terus excited tanya macam macam, siap mintak nak tengok gambar boyfriend husband lagi. Kawen awal sangat, teruja katanya. Hamboi kak. Lol. In the end she offered to treat me for a drink since she works at Coffee Bean. I mean, seriously? Bapak randomnya. But then shortly after my mom called to say that they've arrived so she just gave me the ice blended hushed me to go to arrival gate. Aloo comel sangat boleh?

Boleh je.

Akak comel nama Halimah kat Coffee Bean gate number berapa gua lupa. Lol

Ayah and Ummi came to pick me up and we had Wong Solo for dinner. It's in my wish list so one thing is off the list! The last time I had Wong Solo was probably more than 3 years back and I must say it's kinda disappointing this time. Well nevermind, no more Wong Solo after this.

The used to be legendary ayam penyet. Sekarang dah kecik, so agak kecewa. But the sambal is still ever so legendary pergh perghh

Jus poligami katanya. It has avocado, pineapple, mango and probably papaya in it? This one is good!

Day 2: Tuesday, 28/01/14 - The day of massive jetlag

Did my ritual toilet-cleaning because I couldn't stand anything green and slippery in the toilet while my siblings got tired of it and just let them be. I think my family secretly expected me to clean the toilet because they know how I hate it, so they purposely leave it as it is all this while. Grr.

Went to send Afiq to his school and stopped by to have some late dinner. Nothing impressive hence no pictures of the food. But this, this I loike.

Tembikai laici dan gelas hispter beliau

Did you know watermelons are darn expensive in the UK that the chances of me buying them is zero to none? Added with my laziness, as simple as it seems, such drink is far from wish.

Came back to my results being out. Alhamdulillah, I could now tell the world that I'm back in KL. Not that anyone cares wahahahah. Immediately called my mom in law to let her know that I'm home and a date it is!

Day 3: Wednesday, 29/01/14 - A day out with the in laws

A date with the in laws! Okay more like with Umi, really. So Umi picked me up from LRT Sungai Besi (because I'm still hopeless at driving yes you can laugh) and we went to her new house in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn to see the progress. AND I LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT IT! Not gonna post any details or it might upset dear hubs in the UK (hi sayang!) so yeah. I love the bed most aaaa no words can describe how!

Umi kita comel sangat!

Yet another drink. My ever so favourite 3 layer tea. Umi didn't like it though :(

We went to have breakfast where Umi insisted that they have the best roti canai (beats the one at our current house in Bukit Belimbing) and man she was right! No pictures though since it was just a plate of roti canai doesn't look fancy or anything lol I'm being racist.

View from the balcony

Love love looove this shot! Umi with her brand new soon to be lived in house! Well not the whole lot la, but you get the idea. Umi couldn't stop saying that we got the best unit and I couldn't agree more. Alhamdulillah!

And next, a surprise visit to Wan's!

(And yes, Wan was surprised. Hikhik)

Succeeded at making Wan smile showing her teeth :D Happiness it is!

So here how the story goes. Wan made us some cekodok bilis while we were there. Apparently it wasn't spicy at all. I didn't say anything as I thought that is how Wan usually does her cekodok. But when Umi took her first bite, she immediately laughed and looked at Wan. Wan, as if taking the cue, said, "Ye lah, dah ada budak Bella ni, mana boleh masak pedas." I MEAN WAN SERIOUSLY T_T Apparently Wan still remembers the first time I went for dinner at her place when Adam and I were still dating (we still are btw hihi), she cooked terung bakar which I couldn't eat AT ALL BECAUSE IT WAS TOO SPICY. She remembers this all the way hence no spicy food eventhough I'd like to think that I've adapted to their spicy food oh noooooo D: Now I feel bad for my in laws sebab Wan memang akan adjust tahap kepedasan masakan beliau when I'm around. Tsk tsk.

And later in the evening we went back to our house in Bukit Belimbing. That was when I realised I left quite a few stuff jugak and Umi had to pack them as well before moving out. Sorry Umi :(

Then it's dinner with Abuya! We had dinner at Pak Ya's Chinese Muslim Restaurant near UO mall Ampang, just after Dagang Food Court. And man, the butter prawn was heavenly.

Don't be deceived by the look. It was probably the best butter prawns I have eaten in my entire life. Approved by Umi too!

Sotong cashew nut apa entah. Nope can't beat the butter prawns.

Steamed fish. And nope, can't beat Doll Tomyam's in Kajang.

Abuya before the food disaster. Everything seems under control.

And this is Umi with helping herself to a second plate of butter prawn. See I told ya? Hahaha!

Later that night Umi sent me back to my place at PV8. Okay I am honestly confused with the use of my, her, our place etc sigh but nevermind. On our way back we talked about life and all its wonders. To say that I am lucky to have her as my mom in law is such an understatement. I am forever grateful for that. I even thanked her for Adam! Comel kan kitaa hahaha!

Day 4: Thursday, 30/01/14 - Do nothing day

Literally what it says. Stayed home doing nothing and just be home. But it was on that day when my mom and my sister Syahirah started to go down with fever, which turned out to be dengue :(

But that shall go into a different post. Til then, inshaaAllah!

Kena.

Some random thought of the day --

What if for every blessing that Allah gives us, it comes with a test as well?

Alhamdulillah. I'm home. Home as if, home.

For all that's been happening, Alhamdulillah. I thank Allah.
And thank you for everyone's dua, directly, or indirectly.
For you people reading this, thank you.

Bersih 3.0

In the midst of doing some presentation, I got caught up by some BERSIH 3.0 articles on Facebook.

I've read many of them. Followed the event as much as I could. Read from as many point of views that I could find. Yet, I feel they are a bit too biased, hence I never really want to talk about it. But this one, I find it really.... Heartbreaking.

Forget Facebook dramas. Forget all the misleading comments, the verbal assaults, the insulting words, the controversial photos, the judgmental status, the heavily-biased opinions..

What has happened to our country, really? It's just sad. Everything now becomes politics. Religions, races, everything. If really, it is true that all those BERSIH demonstrators are on opposition side, and by that I mean have been and will be voting for opposition in the next General Election, then the government is in huge trouble.

But they are not. There were people who have been putting their faith in the government, years after years, hoping that things will improve, only to be let down again and again.

I remember saying something about BERSIH 2.0 last year. About not jumping into either side is also a stand. I believe it still is. It's just that when we have another rally like this time around, shouldn't that really mean that something is not right?

There are voices pleading to be heard. Voices of over 200 000 (or more) citizens.

And the harsh truth is that, these voices present physically during the rally also represented many other voices. Those not in Kuala Lumpur, those abroad. Now tell me, how many voices are that already?

May Allah forgive us all.

Happiness is not knowing things that we can't have.

Like seriously?

Now that there's another 6% tax on prepaid and SIM starter pack. What kind of world we are living in?

Saturday, July 9, 2011

My 2.0 Cents.

I'm no big fan of politics. Neither do I have much knowledge in them. But I've been reading here and there on this BERSIH 2.0 thingy, I won't say I'm a full fan die hard supporter. But frankly.. I've been wondering, why does it happen in the first place? If there's no such need, then there won't be such rage. Kalau takde angin takkan pokok bergoyang, no?

Despite not having an in depth understanding of what's going on, I do care. I care about the roadblocks, how some of us have to cancel their plans and all. I care about the safety, how extremists may just create chaos and casualties might happen in split seconds. But most of all, I care about the unheard voices.

Kalau lah betul semua orang puas hati kat negara ni, kenapa mesti ada such thing as perhimpunan segala? There must be something wrong somewhere. Something that I'm sorry, me myself don't have much knowledge in.

Still, I'm worried on what might happen. The extremists, the ones who follow the lead blindly, not knowing what's the purpose. Mungkin boleh declare darurat anytime je? Tapi kalau tak buat benda macam ni, then sampai bila?

I'm a fully government sponsored student, and for that, I thank whoever created such policy on the sponsorship scholarship whatnot. But I must admit, there are things that evoke my curiosity when it comes to politics. Some of them are good, most of them are fishy, if not bad. The same goes to the opposition. But that's how politics are played here, no?

Yes I'm already 21. But no, I still haven't decided which side I'm in. There are pros and cons, and I believe I need to do some research and knowledge and whatever there is, before concluding. Following the leaders blindly isn't a solution, there's a dire need in understanding what their cause is all about.

You may say I don't have a stand. But tidak memihak kepada sesiapa secara membuta tuli selagi masih tidak berpengetahuan, isn't that a stand?

To those who are fighting over justice,  the right to speak, or whatever there is, I pray that you'll find what you're looking for. To those who are contented and feel that we already have everything we need in this beautiful country of ours, let those who are not speak out. If it is proven that these people are just trying to create a scene and have a hidden propaganda, well, there must be reasons why our PDRM are all over the place, right?

..apabila kita menyokong beberapa idea kerajaan bukan bererti kita musuh pembangkang..apabila kita menyokong beberapa idea pembangkang bukan bererti kita musuh kerajaan..apabila kita mengkritik kerajaan bukan bererti kita bersetuju dengan pembangkang..demikian, apabila kita mengkritik pembangkang bukan bererti kita bersetuju dengan kerajaan..itu adalah hak rakyat yang merdeka untuk menilai sendiri setiap yang terjadi.. - DrMAZA

Why I think bros are cool.

"Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it's not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them."

Reminds me of a friend's remark about me. (yes, a bro he is)

"Aku kagum dengan kau sebab kau boleh defend diri sendiri, kau tak perlukan orang lain untuk back up diri sendiri. And kau antara perempuan paling independent yang pernah aku jumpa."

Bukan nak riak, tapi berapa ramai perempuan boleh recognize benda macam ni dalam diri perempuan lain. We, girls, tend to notice on physical things - pergh baju Zara, tudung bungkus Hana Tajima ahem, heels 8 inci hebat gila jalan tak jatuh you, and kulit, fuhhhh flawless! Paling3 pun, weh asal boyfriend dia handsome gilaaaaaa!

Duhh. I buat jugak okay. Cakap lagi perempuan.

I admire your strength, despite everything that happened, you're still strong. Boyfriend kau dump kau untuk some other bitch, kau chill je, walaupun kat dalam memang dah koyak tahap moksha.

Bukannya lawa sangat pun, pakai Coach Wakaf Che Yeh je, lepas tu bajet kaya. BIAAATTTCHHHH! Alah, takpe, kau lagi cantik kot. Ramai lagi yang nak. Mamat tu yang buta, take taste langsung! JEEERRRKKKK.

(dalam usaha to make the dumped girl feel better)

Hoi mamat buta yang takde taste tu pernah jadi boyfriend aku okay! Kalau kau cakap dia takde taste, lepas tu aku ni kira macam produk ke-takde-taste-an dia lah ek?

Okay ayat dah bersepah.

Kan tak pasal3 girlfriend baru mamat tu jadi bitch. Well, lain lah kalau dia memang bitch kan, which applies to some people ehem.

I'm not so sure on how guys see things when it comes to stuff like this. Mungkin sekadar --- Kesian kau, tapi takpelah, at least kau ada member.

Kelihatan tak begitu bersungguh3 untuk meyakinkan that things will be okay, but at least it's honest and (almost) true. By the way, you can't be sure that things WILL be okay, can you?

But you see, Allah tak ciptakan manusia sama. Kalau lelaki dengan perempuan cara berfikir, perangai semua sama, where's the fun of life?

Instead of talking shit about X to make Y feel good, why don't you acknowledge Y's strengths?

Tak perlu lah sampai menjatuhkan orang lain untuk menonjolkan ketidaksamaan jantina. Kot.

Are you just trying to be (a) polite (Malaysian)?

In case of nothing to say, SHUT UP.

You don't really want to talk to them, but you have to stay and make kind faces and respond to every word they say, because you can't make yourself say that you need to leave.

You compliment the food made by others simply because they say nice things about yours, when the fact is actually your taste bud can't function properly.

You tell them how you have been missing them all this while, just because they tell you they miss you, when the fact is actually their absence has never affected you that much.

Are we being too polite to the extent we change our own virtue, or are we just being civilized?

We, Malaysians are known for our politeness and courtesy.

"Hai kak, jemur kain?" (jiran sebelah rumah menegur jirannya yang sedang menjemur kain)

"Beli ikan kak? Rajin memasak nampak?" (kat pasar, terserempak dengan office-mate tengah pilih ikan)

"Eh, makan makan, sila3." (nampak member tengah makan kat cafe)

Orang cakap berbasa-basi. What we say to each other is actually what is obviously happening. Memang lah akak tu tengah beli ikan, nanti nak balik masak, takkan beli ikan lepas tu jual kat restoran suruh masak ikan tiga rasa pulak kot? Jemur kain pun dah terang3 sah, tambah lagi bila tengok orang tengah makan. Cakap pasal makan, kita sikit punya semangat "Eh, makan jum? Sila3." walhal dalam hati bukan nak ajak makan sangat pun. Sebab kalau member tu duduk makan sekali, angin jugak.

Ah, typical Malaysians.

But I don't think that's anything compared to those who actually 'tambah nasik' when people are talking about others. X is complaining about Y, and Z purposely adds things up.

X : Aku bengang betul lah dengan Y, cakap banyak, kerja tak jalan.
Z : Haah, betul3, hari tu pun cam tu gak, dia bla bla bla..
X : Oh, kau pun same ke? Huh, memang sah lah, cakap berapi bla bla..

X puas hati, conversation ends there.

Why do they really have to tambah nasik? I have my own theory.

  1. They have the same issues but couldn't voice it out. Once ada orang start, apa lagi, let go jugak lah.
  2. They are trying to appear interested, being polite. Karang tak respon tak syok lah. Bosan.
  3. They are trying to blend in. Imagine semua orang cakap pasal Y, takkan kau nak diam je?
  4. They are being themselves - some people just like to talk bad about others. It makes them feel good.

Tak boleh ke kalau diam je, angguk3 sikit, dengar, then cakap, sabar3. Being a direct person myself, I wonder why is it so hard to confront someone you're having issues with. When someone come to me and complain how they're disturbed/bothered by someone else, I would (usually) ask, "Have you told them?"

But we, Malaysians (especially the majority ones) don't really practice directness. Sometimes being direct can lead you to unwanted catastrophic disaster. Being sacked, losing friends, for example.

Come to think of it, are they even your friends in the first place? You can't even be direct with them, they won't know how you feel. Is that how you describe friends?

But of course, there's no right or wrong here. I must admit, my directness sometimes causes uneasiness in others. Blending in pun satu isu. So agak3 lah. Whichever fits you best. Just don't lose yourself to others just for the sake of, you know, being polite.

When you're disturbed about something, and the urge to talk to others come, ask yourself, do you really want to let go what's inside and ease yourself, or you're just looking for some juicy gossips and find attention.

When someone come to you and whine about something/someone else, as you're about to reply, ask yourself,  do you really have an issue with that someone/something, or are you just trying to be polite and say bad things as well so that the person you're talking to feels better.

Are we trying to be so polite that we lost our own virtue?

malaysiaku malaysiamu jua.

"erm, pakcik. bas pergi kuantan platform berapa?"
"takde platform. dah3, pergi duduk tu."
[god i swear he was almost yelling to me]

lalu duduklah sy di atas bangku sebelah sorang amoi chantek ni. [tpmeganfoxlagichantekla]. bukak buku sikit, baca3 sikit. tapi still gelisah. gelabah. macam mana nak tawu bas tu kat platform mana ek?? tiket pkul 12.30, skarang dah 12.20...

"em.sorry. boleh tanya tak?bas ni platform mana ek??"
"oh adik tengok kat situ. eh, dah boarding la. cepat3"
[sambil tunjuk kat jadual trans ape tah]

tengok. amoi chantek tu pon bleh cakap elok3. biar la dia tak kerja kat kaunter transnasional pon. walhal pakcik tu kalau boleh dimakihamunnya sy, kena jugak on the spot si nurul nabilah tu.[apaygdibebelkanni??]

"saya da beli tiket, tapi hilang. macamana nak jumpa anak saya kat kuantan. driver manyak mara.bla bla bla.."

nurul nabilah sekadar tersenyum sambil menolong beliau menurunkan beg birunya. dan terus menuju ke seat 9A. fuh, alhamdulillah. selamat..

secara tidak semena-mena..

"YOU TAKDE TIKET, YOU NAK NAIK BAS, MANA BOLEH!"
bvuysgcbnsiheinwvq@#$%&(...
"YE, SY TAWU. TAPI TAKDE TIKET, TAK BOLEH NAIK. BELI TIKET LAIN LA!"
m*guy(&^$!$fghiuhimaw....
"AH,DAH3. SY CAKAP TAKBOLEH NAIK, TAKBOLEH LA.TAK FAHAM KA??!!"
nkjoisbg$%!hjiu_(&w#.....
"ADA ORANG DALAM BAS NI NAK TURUN????BAGI DIA NAIK, DAH NAK NAIK SANGAT. MENYUSAHKAN JE!!"

mungkin bunyinya agak kelakar, tapi sy sgt tersentuh. pakcik takboleh ke cakap elok3 dgn dia? dan tak sampai setengah minit offer tu dibuka, terus pakcik driver tu cakap lagi.

"TAKDE ORANG NAK TURUN. DAH, PERGI BELI TIKET LAIN!!"

pintu ditutup. dan bas terus bergerak. eh, amoi tua tuu...

kita semakin kurang sopan.

first time jalan sorang3 kat pudu..................
